On a recent drive down 41 to Sarasota, Em and I made a stop at Shelf Indulgence Used Book Cafe.
I love a good pun, so the name of the place had sold me before we even arrived. What we found when we walked inside was just as exciting – a fun and trendy combination of a cafe and a bookstore. Thousands of used books are lined up row by row ready to be re-read.
One of my favorite shelves was of wrapped up novels called a “blind date with a book.” I am 100% one of those people who judge a book by its cover! Anything shiny or colorful has a way of catching my eye and anything that isn’t…well, you get it. This fun method eliminates snap judgments and adds a little mystery to your reading experience.
While I regularly take advantage of local libraries to cut costs (and convince myself I am saving the planet), a visit to Shelf Indulgence reminded me that I can afford to start building my at home book collection!

Maybe you’re like me and bookstores aren’t typically my first option when looking for things to do- no shame here! However, games, music and coffee speak my language, just saying!
Shelf Indulgence is a hidden gem right off of Hwy 41 in Sarasota that caters to the readers and caffeine addicts at the same time!
Enjoy a cup of coffee while you study or read a “new-to-you” book and then take a break with a fun game of checkers out front. If hunger strikes but the game is just getting good, don’t worry- Shelf Indulgence offers a variety of food at reasonable prices.
