E:
Recently, Megan and I braved the wind and rain on a Saturday morning to bring you this week’s #411Friday! (Shout-out to my boyfriend for tagging along!)
We met up with Josh and Abbey, the owners of Banyan Coffee Co., at the Bradenton Farmers’ Market, to taste their locally and hand roasted coffee!
After talking to this sweet couple for just a few minutes, it became evident that their passion is coffee; and after a few sips of their coffee, it was clear that it is also their talent.
There are a variety of local places to purchase their delicious coffee beans such as Geraldson’s Farm, The Bradenton Farmers’ Market, and the Waffle Press on AMI.
They are looking to expand their reach into the 941 community by setting up at church and school events as well as local weddings! To invite them to your next gathering, you can get in touch with Josh here.
M:
There are so many good ways to support local business – but most of my favorites include a really good cup of coffee.
Emily and I had a blast visiting Banyan Coffee Company at the Bradenton Farmers’ Market.
Both Josh and Abbey have such a passion for what they do. If you want to learn more about how different beans can be roasted, ground, and brewed, they have a wealth of knowledge to build on.
Each of the Banyan roasts – from the light/medium Guatemalan or Congo to the dark Java or Sumatra – has its own unique flavors. You simply have to try them all (maybe even twice) to determine a favorite!
We took the opportunity to ask the owners of Banyan Coffee Co. a few questions about their business:
Q: Introduce yourselves!
“Banyan Coffee Company is a family owned business which is run by Josh and Abbey Schmitt. We primary roast specialty coffee and cater with our mobile coffee bar.”
Q: What inspired you to step into the coffee bean roasting business?
“Josh: I started roasting coffee about 9 years ago in my garage using popcorn poppers. At that time I was roasting out of desire for something fresh and different, other than what was on the supermarket shelves. Then, I started sharing it with friends and family, and they really liked it…so I thought why not share it with everyone!”
Q: For both of you, which bean is your favorite?
“Josh: I tend to mix it up. I really am digging the Congo and Guatemalan.”
“Abbey: I prefer a medium roast and a bean that has a little more acidity to it. I tend to lean more towards the Guatemalan or the Honduras. I’m also more of a cold coffee fan, and these both make GREAT cold brew!”
Q: Where can readers find you & your beans in the 941? How do partnerships in the community support your business?
“You can pick up Guatemalan and Sumatra Beans at Geraldson’s Farm Stand in NW Bradenton, The Bulk Food Store in Ellenton, and Re Inspire Boutique and The Little Saigon Cafe on Manatee Ave. Our Sarasota readers are not left out and can find us at Fruitville Grove! Additionally, we provide free home delivery. With that option, you are able to choose from our other origins. Check out our website at Banyancoffeecompany.com to view the other bean options.”
Q: What does the future look like for Banyan Coffee Co.?
“We love to bring quality coffee to the 941 area by supporting our coffee farmers directly. We want to make it easy to get fresh coffee by bringing it to you or from a storefront.”
